Massage before or after golf?
Most golfers are happier with a massage after the round. A short, light session before can work too. Here is how to decide.
After the round is the easy answer
By the ninth hole the shoulders, forearms, hips and lower back have all done a lot of repeating. A massage afterward works on those tired muscles while you have nowhere to be, and you can go home or to dinner with a relaxed body. Warm, patient work on the lower back and hips is a favorite. If you played in the Arizona heat, drink water before you come.
When before can make sense
- A light session, 15 to 30 minutes, the day before or earlier on the day of play.
- Chair massage on the shoulders and neck, seated and fully clothed.
- Light pressure only. Some golfers find deep work right before a round leaves them feeling loose or tender, so save the firm work for after.
We open at 8:00 AM, so very early tee times will not line up with a morning appointment. A late-afternoon or evening booking after the round fits better, and we are open until 8:30 PM.
What to book

We are a short drive from the courses around Oro Valley and SaddleBrooke. Massage is for comfort and relaxation, not a way to fix a swing; if you have pain that does not go away, see your doctor.
Massage at Desert Zen is for comfort and relaxation. It is not medical advice and is not a substitute for care from your doctor. Please check with your doctor first if you have a medical condition, and tell your therapist about it before the session.
