Japanese head spa: a first-timer's guide
Curious about head spa but not sure what happens? Here is a plain description of the hour, and a few tips to make the first visit easy.
The short version
A Japanese head spa is a scalp and head treatment: a deep, careful scalp cleanse, warm steam and a slow, rhythmic massage of the head, temples, neck and shoulders. At Desert Zen it is a 60 minute treatment. You lie back, close your eyes and let the hour pass.
Before you come
- Come as you are. There is nothing to prepare, and you do not need to wash your hair first.
- Tell us about scalp sensitivities, allergies or recent hair treatments when you book.
- Wear something comfortable. Ask at the front desk about a towel or wrap for your hair afterward.
After
Many guests feel relaxed and find their scalp feels clean and refreshed. It is not a haircut, a color service or a medical treatment. Pair it with a foot reflexology session or give it as a gift. Full details and prices are on our Japanese Head Spa page.
Massage at Desert Zen is for comfort and relaxation. It is not medical advice and is not a substitute for care from your doctor. Please check with your doctor first if you have a medical condition, and tell your therapist about it before the session.
